Florida State tops Duke in ACC semifinals

Florida State lost a 10-point lead in the second half before recovering to beat Duke 62-59 on Saturday in Atlanta, sending the Seminoles to only the second ACC men’s basketball tournament championship game in program history.

Michael Snaer scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer with 3:27 remaining that gave the Seminoles the lead for good. But No. 17 Florida State (23-9) had to survive some last-minute scares – including missed 3-point attempts by Duke’s Austin Rivers and Seth Curry in the final 6 seconds. No. 6 Duke fell to 27-6.

Florida State will face fourth-ranked North Carolina, the top seed, in today’s championship game.

(4) North Carolina 69, N.C. State 67: Kendall Marshall banked in a shot with 10.2 seconds remaining and the Tar Heels edged the Wolfpack in a rugged game to advance to the ACC tournament championship game in Atlanta.

C.J. Leslie, who led the Wolfpack with 22 points, fouled out with more than 8 minutes remaining. North Carolina (29-4) lost its top scorer when Tyler Zeller picked up his fifth late in the game after scoring 23 points.

(7) Ohio St. 77, (10) Michigan 55: Jared Sullinger scored 24 points to help the Buckeyes defeat the Wolverines (24-9) in the Big Ten tournament semifinals in Indianapolis.

Deshaun Thomas scored 22 points and William Buford added 10 for the third-seeded Buckeyes (27-6).

(8) Michigan St. 65, (14) Wisconsin 52: Draymond Green scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds to lead the Spartans (26-7) past the Badgers (24-9) in the Big Ten tournament semifinals in Indianapolis.

(1) Kentucky 74, Florida 71: Anthony Davis had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and the Wildcats (32-1) held off the Gators (23-10) in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament in New Orleans.

Vanderbilt 65, Mississippi 53: John Jenkins scored 23 points, Brad Tinsley added 12 and the Commodores (23-10) beat the Rebels (20-13) in the Southeastern Conference tournament semifinals in New Orleans. It’s Vanderbilt’s first trip to the championship game in 61 years.

Louisville 50, Cincinnati 44: Chris Smith scored 15 points and the Cardinals withstood a closing run by the Bearcats (24-10) for a victory that gave the Cardinals their second Big East tournament championship in New York. Kyle Kuric added 13 points for seventh-seeded Louisville (26-9), which was in the championship for the third time.

(18) New Mexico 68, San Diego St. 59: Tony Snell made four 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 14 points, and Drew Gordon had 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Lobos (27-6) beat the top-seeded Aztecs (26-7) to win the Mountain West Conference tournament championship in Las Vegas.

Memphis 83, Marshall 57: Joe Jackson led five Memphis players in double figures with 19 points and the top-seeded Tigers (26-8) won their sixth Conference USA tournament championship by beating the visiting Thundering Herd (21-13).

Vermont 51, Stony Brook 42: Four McGlynn scored 14 points and the Catamounts (23-11), despite scoring just five points over the final 9 1/2 minutes, held off the Seawolves (22-9) to win the America East tournament at Stony Brook, N.Y.

Norfolk St. 73, Bethune-Cook. 70: Kyle O’Quinn scored 18 points and the Spartans (25-9) held on to beat the Wildcats (18-17) in Winstom-Salem, N.C., for their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title and NCAA berth.

Ohio 64, Akron 63: D.J. Cooper scored 23 points and the Bobcats (27-7) had to nervously wait through a TV replay in the final seconds before beating the Zips (22-11) in the championship of the Mid-American Conference tournament in Cleveland.

Akron thought it may have tied it at 64 with 3.1 seconds left on a tipped free throw. But the officials reviewed the videotape at the scorer’s table and determined the free throw had dropped in without being touched by anyone.

Lamar 70, McNeese St. 49: Mike James scored 26 points, Devon Lamb added 12 and the Cardinals (23-11) defeated the Cowboys (17-15) in the Southland Conference tournament championship in Katy, Texas.

Mississippi Valley St. 71, Texas Southern 69: Kevin Burwell scored 19 points and the Delta Devils (21-12) won the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament, holding on for a victory over the Tigers (15-18) in Garland, Texas.

Long Beach St. 77, UCSB 64: Casper Ware scored 33 points, James Ennis got six of his 15 points in the final 5:08 and the 49ers (25-8) relied on its long-range shooting to beat the Gauchos (20-10) at Anaheim, Calif., and win the Big West Conference championship and a berth in the NCAAs.
