In brief: Gardening lecture March 24 on seeds

MANITO/CANNON HILL – The Friends of Manito will host a gardening lecture at 1 p.m. March 24 in the Manito meeting room, east of the Gaiser Conservatory.

The lecture will feature Steve Nokes, a Master Gardener and greenhouse owner, who will discuss simple methods to propagate seeds, with or without a greenhouse. The event is free and open to the public.

Interplayers to stage ‘Infinite Ache’

RIVERSIDE – Interplayers Professional Resident Theatre will begin its production of “An Infinite Ache” at 7:30 p.m. March 29 at the theatre, 174 S. Howard St. Other performances are March 30-31, April 4-7 and April 11-14 at 7:30 p.m., with matinees April 1, April 8 and April 14 at 2 p.m.

The show is a story of Hope and Charles and explores how two ordinary people get from A to B to C and so on.

Lecture series schedule set

SPOKANE COUNTY – Lecturers will discuss a variety of topics at upcoming events at Whitworth University.

Photographer John Kaplan will display his photo exhibition, “Not as I Pictured: A Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer’s Journey Through Lymphoma,” tonight in the Robinson Teaching Theatre in Whitworth’s Weyerhaeuser Hall, 300 W. Hawthorne Road, at 7 p.m. Kaplan lectures at photo workshops and seminars throughout the world and has also received recognition for his poetry and writing.

On March 28, Whitworth will host its Lindaman Chair Lecture, “If a Calvinist had Coffee with a Feminist,” by political science professor Julia Stronks, who has served as director for the Murdock Charitable Trust’s $1 million grant for the Lives of Commitment Project since 2001. The free event will be in the Robinson Teaching Theatre at 7 p.m.

Whitworth professor of modern languages Lindy Scott will give the third lecture in the university’s 55th annual Great Decisions Lecture Series on March 29 in the Robinson Teaching Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, “Latin American Christians and U.S. Foreign Policy: The War in Iraq as a Case Study” will address the war in Iraq from the point of view of just war theory, Latin American governments and Latin American churches and organizations.

Trip follows Lake Missoula path

WHITMAN COUNTY – The Whitman County Historical Society will take its annual tour May 19-20, traveling through Ancient Glacial Lake Missoula and its outlet through Idaho and the Spokane Valley.

Interested participants may sign up for the two-day journey. Participants will travel from Pullman in a 47-passenger motor coach, beginning along the Clearwater River, crossing over Lolo Pass and heading into the Bitterroot arm of Glacial Lake Missoula. The second day of the tour will travel along the Clark Fork River into Idaho along Lake Pend Oreille and finally into the Spokane Valley, and back to the Palouse.

Cost for the trip is $212 for one Whitman County Historical Society member or $350 for two members. For nonmembers, there is a $20 additional fee. Lunch will be provided both days.

Brain trauma workshop planned

COMSTOCK – The Unity Church, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present a vicarious trauma workshop Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The workshop will focus on brain development and how the brain reacts to trauma, either emotional or physical.
