Motto to live by: Be nice, says Segel

From Wire Reports

Jason Segel may be the writer-star of hit movies like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “The Muppets.” But he still sounds as sweet as awkward teen Nick Andopolis, the character on the TV series “Freaks and Geeks” who so memorably sang the Styx ballad “Lady” to his high-school crush.

“I think it’s really neat that I’m an actor, all that stuff,” Segel said by phone, talking about his approach to his success. “I think the real goal is just to be nice.”

“There is a way to proceed in this world in a very positive and nice way and do everything you want to do,” he stresses.

Segel is appearing in the romantic comedy “The Five-Year Engagement.” It will kick off the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18. Opening today is “Jeff, Who Lives at Home.”

Actor self-reports on arrest warrant

Actor Russell Brand turned himself in Thursday to New Orleans police after an arrest warrant was issued for him on a charge of simple criminal damage to property valued at $700, authorities said.

Brand posted bond and was released from jail Thursday afternoon, said police spokesman Frank Robertson. Bond had been set at $5,000, he said.

Brand is in New Orleans to film an untitled movie.

Police spokeswoman Remi Braden could not immediately release details of what happened Monday. Celebrity website TMZ said the charges stem from a confrontation with a photographer who was trying to take Brand’s photo from a car.

In a Twitter posting on Wednesday, Brand wrote, “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”

Verdict elusive in ‘Housewives’ suit

Jurors considering Nicollette Sheridan’s lawsuit claiming wrongful termination from TV’s “Desperate Housewives” told a judge Thursday they were having difficulty reaching a verdict.

The disclosure came after the panel spent a little more than a day discussing evidence presented during the two-week trial.

Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White told jurors to resume talks today and to let her know if they need to hear additional arguments or ask more questions.

Sheridan is seeking nearly $6 million from ABC, claiming she was fired from the show for complaining that series creator Marc Cherry struck her during an on-set dispute.
