Olson pitches Gonzaga to victory

Tyler Olson scattered four hits over 7 1/3 innings Friday while leading Gonzaga (11-5) to a 6-4 nonconference win over University of the Pacific (3-14) at Patterson Complex.

Olson (2-0) struck out six, walked three and allowed one earned run.

Clayton Eslick and Royce Bolinger both finished 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for the Bulldogs. Eslick had an RBI triple, and Bolinger followed with an RBI double during GU’s three-run sixth.

• J.D. Leckenby (3-2) pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings as Washington State (10-6) opened Pac-12 play with a 6-0 win at No. 6 Arizona (14-4).

WSU had lost six consecutive games in Tucson.

Leckenby struck out four, walked three and allowed five hits. Richie Ochoa finished off the seventh for Leckenby by coaxing a double-play grounder, and Kellen Camus pitched the final two innings.

Third baseman Patrick Claussen finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Cougars, who scored single runs during the first four innings.

• Junior Aaron West (3-1) worked six-plus innings, retiring 13 consecutive batters in one stretch, as Washington (11-6) posted an 8-3 win over 17th-ranked Oregon (12-4) to open Pac-12 play at Husky Ballpark in Seattle.
