Age 84

EGGERS, Stewart J.


July 27, 1927 -” March 12, 2012

Stewart “Stew” James Eggers was born July 27, 1927 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

He lived in various places including Mullan, ID, Onecha District WA, and Chewelah, WA but lived in Spokane since 1949.

He graduated from St. Edward’s Seminary in Kenmore, WA and then joined the United States Marine Corps In 1946 where he served two years in China.

In 1949, he enrolled at Gonzaga University, and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology.

He sang with the Gonzaga Men’s Glee Club, forming lifelong friendships and met his future wife, Patricia Bethel there.

They married in 1951 and had eleven children.

Pat passed away in 1967 at age 35.

Stew kept his family together and raised his children as a single father.


Stew worked in the Spokane County Auditor’s office, then went on to become a pioneer in the data processing industry at Sacred Heart Hospital.

He finished his career with Fi-Serv, a computer banking service.
Stew was an avid Cougars football fan and a season ticket holder for Gonzaga’s Men’s Basketball.

He faithfully attended as many of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events as possible.

Stew continued to sing at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.


He is survived by his brother, Bill; his 9 children; Jim (Marianne Mishima), Margaret Zerr (Fred), Barbara Knop (Mike), Steve (Diana), Katy Eucker (Jeff), Phil, Mary Davis (Tom), Patty (Dana), Joe (Lori); 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arbin (1978), Anna (1983), his son, Paul (1999), his daughter, Tina (2005), his brother Bob (2010), and his grand- daughter Allison (2011).
Vigil Service will be Monday, March 19, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 20 , 2012 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 219 E. Rockwood Blvd.

with a reception immediately following at Rockwood Lane Retirement Center, located just behind the church.

Military honors and interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St.
