Al was born in Spokane, WA to Ina and Clarence Janke, and was one of ten children.

Al lived his entire life in Spokane.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and afterwards in the U.S.

Naval Reserves.

He worked for Kaiser-Mead and later started his own business, Janke Construction, and was very well known within the building and concrete industry.

Al was instrumental in the development of 7-Bays at Lake Roosevelt, and enjoyed summers at 7-Bays fishing along with his wife JoAnn and friends.

Al will always be remembered for his great storytelling and his love of animals and his big gardens.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne (Doris and Christopher), and Terry; his faithful 4-legged companion, Sparky; special friend Nancy; sisters, Thelma, Bette, and Anne; brothers, Armond, and Robert; 23 nieces and nephews; sons-of-the-heart, Monty Anderson and Bill Reinhbalt.

Al is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, JoAnn; his parents; brothers Kenneth and David; sisters Dorothy and Evelyn, and his favorite dog, Dobe.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane for all of their help.

Services will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home on Friday, March 23rd at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Spokane Humane Society.
