Spokane Shock notch their first win

SAN ANTONIO – A fourth-quarter comeback gave the Spokane Shock their first win of the 2012 Arena Football League season on Saturday night.

Quarterback Adam Froman accounted for two consecutive fourth-quarter touchdowns – one passing and one rushing – and Spokane held on to beat San Antonio 63-60 at the Alamodome.

Steven Black hauled in a 7-yard pass from Froman with 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter to give Spokane a 56-54 lead. On Spokane’s next possession, Froman sprinted in for a 36-yard touchdown to put the Shock ahead 63-54 with 2:28 left. The Talons added a touchdown in the final minute.

Froman, playing in place of the injured Erik Meyer, completed 25 of 35 passes for 227 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 53 yards on the ground, including two scores.

Brandon Thompkins and Adron Tennell each caught two touchdowns. Black and Justin Ore also hauled in touchdown passes for the Shock.

San Antonio jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the first 2 minutes. Froman, however, threw for three touchdowns on Spokane’s next three possessions.

Trailing 41-28 with 5 seconds left to play in the first half, Spokane’s Paul Stephens returned a kickoff 37 yards to cut San Antonio’s halftime lead to six points.

The Shock outscored the Talons 28-19 in the second half to complete the comeback.

One-time Washington State quarterback Aaron Garcia threw for 311 yards and six touchdowns for the Talons.

Jomo Wilson had 10 grabs for 128 yards and three scores.

Spokane, which fell to Iowa 69-63 in its season opener in Spokane last Monday, will host San Jose on March 30.
