1. B. New Mill Capital LLC bought the old Kaiser-Mead smelter site.

2. A. Pink slime is a term for beef fat and other byproducts that are chemically treated, liquefied and sometimes added to hamburger. The USDA said schools can reject it for food in their cafeterias.

3. C. WSU Spokane hired some top researchers to study how a person’s genetic background will determine whether they respond to a particular drug, allowing doctors to pick the right drug at the right dose for the desired outcome.

4. C. Spokane’s unemployment rate for January was 9.8 percent, up slightly from December but down from January 2011 when it was 10.9 percent.
