Agreed Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland agreed to a $28.5 million, five-year contract Tuesday rather than wait to become a free agent. Holland was 16-5 last season, the most wins for Texas among players younger than 25. He is 3-0 with a 3.82 ERA in 12 postseason appearances during the past two years.

• Catcher Nick Hundley and the San Diego Padres agreed to a $9 million, three-year contract. Hundley hit .288 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 82 games last season.

Delayed A court hearing on a temporary restraining order filed against University of Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson has been postponed. The Missoulian reports that the day’s hearing was postponed until Tuesday at the request of Johnson’s attorney. A woman alleged that Johnson sexually assaulted her. No charges have been filed against Johnson. He is a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., and led Montana to the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals last fall

Cited Marquette coach Buzz Williams confirmed a published report that six players were ticketed for being in a bar earlier this year despite being not old enough to drink. Williams said he handled the situation when it happened in January. He did not disclose details of any discipline. There was no indication they were drinking at the Milwaukee nightclub. Marquette faces Florida in an NCAA regional semifinal on Thursday. Given Williams’ stance that the team already has dealt with the situation, the players are expected to be available for the game.

Hired Rhode Island hired Dan Hurley as the new men’s basketball coach. Hurley, 39, who spent two years at Wagner, agreed to a six-year deal. In his second season at Wagner, Hurley led the Seahawks of the Northeast Conference, to a 25-6 record.

Injured Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has a broken bone below his right eye after being struck by a bad-hop grounder, sidelining the star slugger for at least a week. The American League Central champions start April 5 at home against the Boston Red Sox.
