In brief: EWU hires Valeria as cornerbacks coach

College football: Filling a hole that had been vacant since the beginning of last season, Eastern Washington hired Cherokee Valeria as cornerbacks coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Valeria replaces Torey Hunter, who was hired by Idaho in August.

Valeria, a former college teammate of EWU head coach Beau Baldwin, coached defensive backs last season at Southeast Missouri State. He was also the team’s assistant recruiting coordinator.

Valeria and Baldwin were teammates in the 1990s at Central Washington, where Valeria coached cornerbacks in 2005-6 before taking the same position at Idaho State for three seasons. Valeria spent three seasons as cornerbacks coach at ISU.
