Spotlight: Behrens brings ‘Misery’ to CdA

Tim Behrens is taking his Patrick F. McManus gig to Coeur d’Alene.

“A Fine and Pleasant Misery” will be staged at the Salvation Army Kroc Center’s Performing Arts Theater, 1765 W. Golf Course Road, at 7:30 p.m. May 3-4.

“Pleasant Misery” was the first of the McManus comedies written for the stage. In the one-man show, Behrens plays 12 different characters, from old Mrs. Swisher to a deer on a bicycle. Behrens has been McManus’ “indentured actor” since 1992, and has taken the McManus comedies to 23 states and a couple of Canadian provinces.

Tickets are on sale at the Kroc Center front desk, by phone at (208) 667-1865 or online at www.itickets.com. Cost is $23 for adults, $17 for children 17 and younger. Ticket sales benefit the Kroc Center’s camp scholarship fund.

Time to get Slammed

The 50 Hour Slam film festival will kick off April 6.

The annual festival and competition is open to all area filmmakers. They’ll have 50 hours, from 7 p.m. April 6 to 9 p.m. April 8, to complete a three- to six-minute film, from writing through the final editing. The entries will be screened and judged May 13. Judges include arts writers Dan Webster and Jim Kershner, both former Spokesman-Review staff members; casting agent Mike Imoru; KYRS news director Gavin Dahl; Spokane/CDA Living editor Blythe Thimson; Inlander arts editor Mike Bookey; and Spokane Arts Commission member Cori McWilliams.

Winners of both the Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice awards will be shown during the 2013 Spokane International Film Festival.

Today from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., interested filmmakers can attend a workshop covering the basics of filmmaking at Community Minded Television, 25 W. Main Ave.
