HOUSE, Hughena Elizabeth

Graveside Service with 21-Gun Salute — Friday, March 30, 2012 at 2pm, Fairview Cemetery in Rockford, WA with memorial service to follow on Saturday, March, 31, 2012 at 11am at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 West Chelan, Spokane.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2012 — the first day of spring to start her new beginning in Heaven.

Hughena was born February 11, 1916 to Charles and Bessie Hecht.

She was born and raised in Rockford, WA.

Her grandfather was one of the first founders of Rockford and homesteaded there.

The farm has been in the family for about 123 years.

Hughena has a Washington State Pioneer Certificate that certifies that the family settled here in November 11, 1889.

She attended Rockford School as well as Whitworth College, University of Washington and Cheney Normal.

She taught school in Washington at Onalaska, Newport, Vanport and Carson as well Logan School here in Spokane.

In Carson, her class was one of the very first to see a sneak preview of The Wizard of Oz.

She was a WAVES in WWII.

She worked in the photographic science lab in Anacostia, NY.

She worked with top secret films and could not utter a word to any one about them.

Hughena was the best mother in the world, award winning cook, seamstress, painter and poet.

She loved working with her husband, Bob House, who she married on November 16, 1946.

Together they owned and operated the R.L.

House Studios at 2408 West NW Boulevard here in Spokane.

Hughena leaves behind daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Kelly Rhoads; daughter, Roberta Parkay; granddaughter, Anna and Toby Gallier; brother, Vernon and Teresa Hecht; sister, Lois Claassen; brother-in-law Clarence and Gen House; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband, Robert House and son, Richard House

Hughena took great pride in her 56 years of membership at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and awarded Mother of the Year.

She had a beautiful singing voice and new all of the old time hymns by heart.
