After declining health, Claudia passed away at age 75 in an Escondido, CA, hospital with her two daughters at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, CMSgt. Harlan Dale “Joe” Kennedy on January 13, 2011. Claudia was born in Spokane to Carl and Gladys Funseth. She graduated from North Central High School in 1954, attending WSC (now WSU) for one year. She met Joe while he was assigned to Fairchild Air Force Base. They married in 1956 and lived in Spokane for a short while until being stationed in Moses Lake and then bases in California. Claudia was a homemaker and supporter of her husband’s military career and they remained in California, living north of the San Diego area after Joe’s retirement.
Claudia is survived by her three children: Kim May (Johnny) of Venice, CA; Keith Kennedy and Kari Meade of Vista, CA; also four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her brother, Carl Funseth, resides in Spokane and her sister, Kay Bahls (Les), in Sherwood, OR. (Her other brother, local pro-golfer Rod Funseth, died in 1985). Other survivors include nephews Greg Funseth (Karen) in Salt Lake City, Mark Funseth (Heidi) in Calif., Jeff Ressler (Wei) in Portland and niece Lisa Rader (Stace) in Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on March 30, 2012 at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Claudia will be dearly missed by all who knew her for her easygoing and fun-loving personality.
