Spokane jail inmate found dead

A Spokane County Jail inmate was found dead on top of his bunk inside a cell early this afternoon, sheriff’s officials said.
The death was discovered when jail personnel went to the man’s cell to administer medication. He appeared to be sleeping, they said. An effort to revive the man, who was not breathing, were not successful.
Sheriff’s detectives have initiated an investigation based on procedures at the jail, said Deputy Mark Gregory in a news release about 2:30 p.m.

The identity of the victim was withheld pending a medical examiner investigation. There were no apparent signs of trauma or a struggle on the body, Gregory said.
