Spokane Valley police investigate double fatal

Spokane Valley police investigators will be investigating a double-fatal accident on Saturday night that claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and a bicyclist. Autopsies are expected on both victims in the 7:30 p.m. crash at Buckeye Avenue and Dick Road in the Millwood area. Identities of the males will be released after autopsies, police said. Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory, a spokesman for police, said that witnesses reported the motorcycle rider was traveling at a high rate of speed. Both victims were taken for hospital treatment. The bicyclist made it to surgery, but died several hours after the colision. Officers said said the bicyclist was westbound on Buckeye in Spokane Valley and stopped at a stop sign at North Dick Road between 6:30 and 7 p.m.

The cyclist then proceeded into the intersection, where he collided with the motorcyclist, who was northbound on Dick Road and did not have a stop sign. The motorcyclist was declared dead at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

It was not known if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors, but authorities did note that neighbors in the area had called police to complain about a motorcyclist driving around the area at high speed.
