Fox’s Geraldo: Sorry for hoodie comment

From Wire Reports

Fox News Channel commentator Geraldo Rivera said Tuesday he’s sorry for suggesting that a hoodie worn by unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was as much responsible for his death as the neighborhood watch captain who shot him.

Rivera said a conversation with his oldest son on Monday convinced him he was wrong. Rivera said it was the first time 32-year-old Gabriel Rivera had said he was ashamed of something his dad had said – and it caused Rivera a sleepless night.

Rivera’s comments last week triggered an angry response among people concerned about the case. “I apologize for the language,” Rivera said. “I don’t apologize at all for the substance of my advice. I was trying to save lives.”

Lorax statue stolen from Seuss home

A 2-foot bronze statue of Dr. Seuss’ Lorax character was stolen from the San Diego backyard garden of the 90-year-old widow of the beloved author whose real name was Theodore Geisel.

Audrey Geisel noticed the 300-pound statue and its tree-stump base were missing from the garden and were likely stolen over the weekend.

Audrey Geisel’s daughter Lark Grey Dimond-Cate cast two of the sculptures. One was the lone Seuss character to reside on the family’s property overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla. The other sits at the Dr. Seuss National Memorial in the author’s hometown, Springfield, Mass.

“I want very badly to get our little Lorax back home where he belongs,” Dimond-Cate said. “Wherever he is, he’s scared, lonely and hungry. He’s not just a hunk of metal to us. He was a family pet.”

First lady to attend Kids’ Choice

The first lady is making an appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards to celebrate pop star Taylor Swift for her charity work.

Michelle Obama will give Swift the Big Help Award during Nickelodeon’s 25th annual awards show Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The award recognizes individuals whose charitable efforts have made an impact and inspired children to do the same. Obama was the 2010 winner of the the Big Help Award.

Swift has been active in flood and storm relief, raising $750,000 when she opened her final “Speak Now” tour rehearsal to fans to benefit tornado victims in the South. She’s also active with charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.
