Obituary: Langfeldt, Bernadine E.

Age 93

LANGFELDT,
Bernadine E.
“Grandma
Dene”
3/2/1919 - 3/25/2012

Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, and friend to all.

Lived 93 years devoted to her family and friends in Reardan and Spokane, as well as those in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Born to Alvin and Edna Curry in central Illinois.

Met her beloved Erwin in 1941; they wrote faithfully to each other during the war and married upon his return.

While he was away, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse.

In 1952, the Air Force moved them to Fairchild and they settled in Reardan a year later.

When her two youngest were of school age she began teaching second grade in Reardan, also earning a BA in ED from Eastern Washington State College.

She later became the Librarian for both the grade and high schools.

After moving to Spokane in 1977, she commuted to Reardan with several teaching “buddies” until retirement.

She showed remarkable strength and courage throughout her life, even after losing her daughter, husband, and son within a four-year span.

She enjoyed oil painting, bowling, playing cards, reading, listening to music, ballroom dancing, gardening, watching her grandkids play sports, traveling with dear friend Ora, visiting her daughter Pam and family in Seattle, and spending quiet days at her Sacheen Lake cabin.

She is survived by daughters Pam (David) Yorozu and Paula (Dennis) Heimbigner; grandchildren Kurt (Leah) and Marc (Nicole) Heimbigner, and Adrien, Emi, and Brian Yorozu; two great-grandsons Gabriel and Nash; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents; sister Vivian; her husband; son Lynn; and daughter Myrna.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Presbyterian Church, 150 W. Spokane Ave, Reardan, WA.
