In brief: Youth center hosts evening egg hunt

HILLYARD – The Northeast Youth Center will host its annual Flashlight Egg Hunt on Saturday at Hays Park, 1200 E. Providence Ave.

Children ages 4 to 6 may begin hunting for eggs at 7 p.m.; kids, 7- to 9-year-olds can start looking at 7:45; and 10- to 13-year-olds can begin searching for their eggs at 8. Egg hunters will use a flashlight to find eggs filled with candy. Some kids may find a gold or silver egg and will receive a special prize. Participants are asked to bring a flashlight and a prize bag and dress in weather-appropriate clothing.

The Flashlight Egg Hunt is a Kids-Helping-Kids fundraiser that supports the scholarship funding for the children’s summer programs in the Hillyard community.

Tickets are $11 per person and may be purchased in advance by calling (509) 482-0708.

The youth center is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational and educational activities for 5- to 15-year-olds in Hillyard.

Assault awareness events planned

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Sexual Assault and Family Trauma Response Center will host a number of events in April to provide community members with information about Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

During First Friday on April 6, masks made by survivors of sexual violence will be displayed in downtown Spokane businesses. T-shirts decorated by women affected by violence will be on display at the downtown Spokane Public Library, 906 W. Main Ave., as part of “The Clothesline Project,” April 9 through April 21. From 6 to 8 p.m., on April 18, “The Line” will be shown at the Magic Lantern Theatre, 25 W. Main Ave. The event is free; donations will be accepted to support the center.

“Spoken Word, Yo!” will be at Neato Burrito, 827 W. First Ave., on April 26 at 6 p.m. Stories and poems by poets, along with survivors of sexual violence will be shared.

Accountants host benefit April 19

EMERSON/GARFIELD – The Spokane Chapter of American Society of Women Accountants will have its annual spring dinner, dessert, auction and scholarship benefit on April 19 at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St., at 6 p.m. Networking will begin at 5:15.

The event will feature Linda Davis, the marketing manager at MOR Manufacturing, as the keynote speaker. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about local nonprofit organizations.

The annual spring fundraiser will also raise money for the Mary M. Fraijo Scholarship, awarded to Spokane women or men in accounting. Fraijo was a member of both the Idaho and Spokane chapters of the ASWA and was a mentor to students and accountants. The scholarship was created in 1996 and has raised more than $36,000 in her memory. Fraijo died in 1995.
