Suspended Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark was suspended for three games by Major League Soccer on Wednesday and fined for directing a gay slur toward a ball boy during Houston’s 2-0 loss in Seattle last week. MLS commissioner Don Garber also directed Clark to attend diversity and sensitivity training.

Committed Former Maryland quarterback Danny O’Brien committed to playing for Wisconsin. Badgers coach Bret Bielema announced the addition, which fills a gap for Wisconsin after the departure of Russell Wilson. O’Brien will graduate after three years at Maryland and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Sidelined Women’s tennis star Kim Clijsters has a torn hip muscle and will need four weeks off the tour. Clijsters said she hopes to be back for the Madrid Open, which starts May 5.

• Lisa Love is out as athletic director at Arizona State University, replaced by Steve Patterson. Love had headed the Sun Devils’ athletic department since 2005. The university said she is leaving to pursue other career opportunities. Patterson had been the chief operating officer of Sun Devil Athletics.

Hired Former Missouri State men’s basketball coach Barry Hinson was introduced as the new Southern Illinois Salukis men’s basketball coach. The 50-year-old, who spent the past four seasons at Kansas, agreed to a five-year contract. He replaces Chris Lowery, who went 145-116 in eight seasons with the Salukis but was fired March 2 after an 8-23 season.

• The Chicago Tribune and CBSSports.com reported that Illinois agreed to a deal with Ohio University’s John Groce to replace Bruce Weber as men’s basketball coach.

• Illinois named University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Matt Bollant as its new women’s basketball coach. Under Bollant this season, Green Bay finished 31-2 and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The 41-year- old coach was 148-19 in five seasons at Green Bay.

Named The five finalists for the John R. Wooden Award given to the top women’s college basketball player are Brittney Griner of Baylor, Nnemkadi Ogwumike of Stanford, Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame, Elena Delle Donne of Delaware and Julie Wojta of Wisconsin-Green Bay. All five women were named to the women’s Wooden All-America team.
