Evelyn, known as “Grandma” to many, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Spokane Valley.

She had just celebrated her 102nd birthday on March 21, 2012.

She was born on a wheat ranch in Lamont, WA.

One of eight children, she was born on March 21, 1910 to Jack and Eva Potts.

Four brothers (William, Leslie, Daniel, and Thomas) have pre-deceased her - also her parents and Howard Sanders (2007).

She is survived by one brother Homer Potts (Great Falls, MT) and two sisters, Maxine Reitmeier and Louise Dolan (both of Spokane, WA).

She is also survived by 1 grandson (Gary K Sanders, Tri-cities, WA), one granddaughter (Tina Davis, Tucson, AZ), two great-grandsons (Eric of Seattle and Aaron of Spokane) and three great-great-grandchildren.

She also leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.

Evelyn completed her elementary grades in a one-room school at Revere, WA.

She later transferred to Lamont where she graduated High School in 1928.

Following her High School graduation, she attended EWU in Cheney, WA (then known as Cheney Normal School).

She earned her Teaching degree in June 1930.

Her 1st teaching job was in a one-room school at Liberty Lake, WA.

Later she taught at several schools in Spokane Valley for about 15 years.

She met and married Howard Sanders in 1934.

Together they owned and operated three restaurants (2 in downtown Spokane and 1 on West Garland in North Spokane).

After being in the restaurant business for many years, they sold their home and business to build the Community Church of the Bible at 4510 N Sullivan Rd.

in the Valley in 1957.

Together they pastored and maintained the church for 21 years.

Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, located at 1306 N. Pines Rd.

is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation and viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 30 from 4-8pm and again on Saturday, March 31 from 9-11am.

Memorial service will be held at the Community Church of the Bible (4510 N. Sullivan Rd) on Saturday, March 31 at 2:00pm.

Graveside services will be held at Riverside Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 3rd at 12noon.

A second Memorial Service will be held at Good Samaritan Community Center (17028 E. 8th Ave) on Thursday, April 5 at 2pm.
