2 arrested in connection to Whitman County murder

Two men have been arrested in connection to the murder of 23-year-old Malden man, whose body was found Sunday in a north Whitman County creek.

Frank G. Lazcano, 24 of Pine City, Wash., and Daniel C. Lazcano, 20, of Spokane, were arrested Friday and booked into the Whitman County jail on charges of 2nd degree murder, according to a Whitman County Sheriff’s Office press release.

A coroner’s report found that Marcus A. Schur died Dec. 27 from multiple gunshot wounds, according to information released Saturday. He was found Sunday floating in shallow water by a fisherman, in a creek near Bonnie Lake.

The suspects’ first appearances are scheduled for Monday in Whitman County Superior Court.

On Monday, a witness said Schur’s hands and legs were bound when his body was found.

The witness, Nick Backman, was at the south end of Bonnie Lake on Sunday when the body was recovered.

Backman said then he believes the victim was a Rosalia man who has been missing since a dinner party at his house on Dec. 27.

Backman said the victim was chased from the dinner party at his home by a man who burst in. He said house break-ins might have led to the chase.
