Churches set events for Holy Week

Holy Week starts Sunday and many Valley churches are planning special services and events to mark Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

• The choir of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will present a performance titled “Come Touch the Robe” during a Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 115 N. Raymond Road. The service will be followed by a Hallelujah Party for children with crafts, face-painting, cake and an egg hunt.

The church will host a Christian Seder meal and worship service on Maundy Thursday at 6 p.m.

• A Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave.

• The choir of Opportunity Presbyterian Church will perform the cantata “Calvary’s Mountain” at a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. A soup supper will precede the service at 6 p.m. The church, 202 N. Pines Road, will also host a Tenebrae service on Good Friday at 7 p.m.

• Worship on Palm Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Road. The service will be preceded by a breakfast at 8:15 a.m. and Sunday school at 9:15 a.m.

Holy Week services will begin at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

• Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will have a Good Friday Communion service at 7 p.m.

• The Veradale United Church of Christ has invited the congregation of Opportunity Christian to attend a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. at Veradale UCC, 611 N. Progress Road. The service will be preceded by a light dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Opportunity Christian, 708 N. Pines Road, will have its own Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

• St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams, will host the Stations of the Cross at noon on Good Friday. The congregations of Advent Lutheran Church and the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection have also been invited to attend.

• Holy Week services will begin at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at Advent Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave.

• A Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave. The church will also host the Service of the Cross at 12:10 and 7 p.m. on Good Friday.
