In brief: Open house set for shoreline plan

SPOKANE VALLEY – Residents and business owners are invited to attend an open house Thursday on the update to the city’s Shoreline Master Program. The city is required by state law to update the plan, which regulates development of shorelines on lakes and rivers within 200 feet of the ordinary high water mark. The city’s plan includes the Spokane River, Shelley Lake and the water-filled gravel pits on Sullivan Road and near Interstate 90 and Broadway.

The open house will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave. Those attending will be able to look at the draft goals and policies in advance of a public hearing with the city’s planning commission on April 12. Mayor will address state of city

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Mayor Tom Towey will deliver the first of four State of the City speeches Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Valley Fourth Memorial Church, 2303 S. Bowdish Road. Towey’s talk will cover the city’s accomplishments in 2011 and goals for 2012.

Additional speeches are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 11 at Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 E. Broadway Ave.; 6:30 p.m. April 18 at Seth Woodard Elementary, 7401 E. Mission Ave.; and at 12:30 p.m. April 25 at the Spokane Valley Mall second floor Community Room.

Pet vaccination clinic next Saturday

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will host a low-cost vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday at the shelter, 2521 N. Flora Road. Vaccines will be available for $5 and microchips will be offered for $8. Pet owners will also be able to get pet ID tags for free and vouchers for spaying or neutering.

Churches hosting Easter egg hunts

• Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3603 S. Schafer Road, will host its annual community Easter egg hunt next Saturday at 11 a.m. There will be more than 6,000 candy-stuffed egg for children to find. There will also be a petting zoo, jump castle and free hot dog lunch.

• Valley Real Life Church, 1831 S. Barker Road, will have a community Easter egg hunt and other activities from 1 to 3 p.m. next Saturday. There will also be a petting zoo, prizes and jumping castle. Food items will be available for purchase and families will also be able to have professional Easter photos taken. An Easter service will follow at 5:30 p.m. Child care will be available for children through the fifth grade.
