Spokane River to flood until Saturday

The National Weather Service is predicting the Spokane River will remain above flood stage until Saturday morning. The river was at 27.5 feet today, a half foot above flood stage. That is causing flooding of the Centennial Trail between Mission Avenue and Greene Street. Water is also lapping along the pavement of Upriver Drive. Minor flooding is occurring at Peaceful Valley park and approaching adjacent homes. Flooding is also being reported today on the St. Joe River where flood waters went up after rainfall on Monday. The St. Joe was at 35.15 feet at St. Maries this morning, well above the flood stage of 32.5 feet. The river is predicted to start dropping on Wednesday. Lake Coeur d’Alene has dropped below flood stage and was at an elevation of 2,132.7 feet this morning with flood stage at 2,133 feet. The lake crested over the weekend about three inches above flood stage. Cooler conditions should slow snow melt this week, forecasters said. However, showers are expected over the region today and Wednesday. Rain is expected on Thursday. Clouds and a 20 percent chance of showers are expected this weekend. Highs are likely to be in the lower to middle 50s with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
