Synthetic pot worth at least $100,000 seized

Associated Press

BURLEY, Idaho – Law enforcement officials in south-central Idaho have seized synthetic marijuana worth at least $100,000 from two businesses in Burley.

The Mini-Cassia Drug Task Force and local sheriff’s offices served search warrants on Kerbs Oil and the One Stop Shop on Thursday in a crackdown following a recent spike in hospitalizations of young people smoking the substance.

Mindoka County Sheriff Kevin Halverson said the 22 pounds of “Spice” seized from Kerbs Oil has a value of $100,000.

The Idaho Legislature added Spice and other drugs like it to the state’s illegal controlled substances list in 2011. Police said businesses had been warned about selling synthetic marijuana after the ban went into law.
