Moses Lake boy on life support at Spokane hospital

A 2-year-old Moses Lake boy is on life support at a Spokane hospital after authorities found him malnourished and without a heartbeat Wednesday.

Medics got the boy’s heart beating again, and he was taken to a Moses Lake hospital before he was flown by helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he remains, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

A detective with 23 years’ experience in law enforcement called it the worst case of child abuse and neglect he’s seen.

The boy weighed less than 10 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and medics were called to boy’s home near Moses Lake about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Detectives served a search warrant Wednesday night to collect evidence. Four other children who live at the home - a 14-year-old boy and three girls ages 10, 7 and 4 - are in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing.
