Boise St. said to be wavering

Mountain West trying to hold on to Broncos

The marriage between football power Boise State and the Big East Conference may be in jeopardy before it even begins.

A CBSSports.com report indicates that Boise State is wavering about its move to the Big East and has yet to officially withdraw from the Mountain West Conference.

That report cites sources who say school officials met with Mountain West representatives earlier this week and the conference is attempting to convince Boise State to stay in its current home. Boise State, scheduled to join the Big East for the 2013 football season, has until June 30 to notify the Mountain West that it is leaving.

The school was set to move its non-football sports to the Western Athletic Conference, but the Idaho Statesman has reported Boise State officials are concerned about the health of the WAC and are seeking other options, even assistance from the Big East in finding a home for the Olympic sports.

The MWC reportedly has told Boise State it cannot host its non-football sports unless the school keeps its football program in the conference. The status of the non-football sports could influence Boise State’s change of plans.
