Age 78

CHASTAIN, Barbara R.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother & sister, Barbara Ruth Chastain went into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on May 5, 2012.

She was born June 18, 1933 in Mt.

Holly, N.J. to Clarence R. and Ruth D. Maus.

At age five her family moved to California.

She met her husband Dick in Jr. High School but didn’t marry until over fifty years later when they found each other again.

Barb graduated from Fresno State College and earned an MA degree from Whitworth College.

She raised her three children in Spokane and was so thankful they all remained nearby.

She taught Special Education in Spokane and was with Central Valley School District for 19 years, retiring as Director of Special Education (Runberg).

Upon retirement she volunteered with the Guild School and Hospice of Spokane.

Barb was an avid traveler visiting nearly every continent.

Barb is survived by her husband Dick; children Suzanne Markham (Paul), Rebecca Casto (Tom), and Jon Harms (Denise); her brothers Chris (Debbie) Maus, Clarence (Susy) Maus, and their children.

The joys of her life are her grandchildren: Renae, Jon, and Rachel Casto, Sarah, Steven, and Annie Harms.

She wanted to be remembered with this simple phrase: “She loved and was loved!



Funeral services will be Saturday, May 12, 1:00 PM at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST.

IN SPOKANE.

Private interment will be at Eastern Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice House of Spokane.
