MUZZY, Benjamin James

Benjamin was born on March 5, 1925 in North Dakota; passed away May 4, 2012 in Spokane, WA.

He was a 39-year resident of the area.

Benjamin attended high school in Crosby, North Dakota and graduated in 1944.

He also attended Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane, WA graduating in 1976.

He married Margarete (Gossner) Muzzy in 1952.

During his Air Force career he served in WWII and Vietnam.

He served as a B-24 gunner in the B-24 combat crew, Pacific Island, New Guinea, Yontan Air Strip, Okinawa, Japan.

In September, 1950 he was a C-54 Flight Engineer in Wiesbaden AFB, Germany.

From 1953 to December, 1957 he was a technical advisor at Wisconsin Air National Guard, General Mitchell Field, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He was in Bitburg, Germany from 1958 to January, 1962.

He was stationed at Loring AFB, Maine until 1966, and Carswell AFB, Texas from August, 1966 to July 1967.

From August 10th, 1967 to July, 1968 he was Staff Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent.

From August 27, 1968 to December, 1973 he was Chief of Maintenance in Bitburg, Germany.

From July, 1973 to June, 1974 he was NCOIC Job Control at Fairchild AFB, Washington.

After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a salesman for 10 years at Montgomery Wards, retiring in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margarete Muzzy; sister Genevieve Burt, La Verkin, UT; brother James Muzzy, Grand Rapids, MN; three nieces and two nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 16th, 3:00 p.m. at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
