Rosters announced for Blair all-star basketball game
As high school all-star basketball games go, the Jack Blair Memorial Classic has stood the test of time.
It’s 19 years old and features most of the top girls players from the area. That will be the case again June 4 when the Region takes on the Metro at University. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
It’s been a one-sided series with the Metro winning 17 times. But the last four games have been competitive and that trend is expected to continue.
The Metro team is made up of all the first- and second-team players from the Greater Spokane League.
The Region represents the best players from greater Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
“The last several years the Region team has had more talent than the Metro team and this year is no different,” said Ron Adams, the game director. “But the Metro team plays well together every year because it represents the best league in three or four states.”
Playing for the Metro are: GSL most valuable player Brooke Gallaway (Central Valley), Aleisha Hathaway (Shadle Park), Nakia Arquette (Lewis and Clark), Kayleigh Valley (U-Hi), Jade Redmon (Mead) and Hallie Gennett (U-Hi), all first-team picks, along with second-team selections Lindsay Stockton (Gonzaga Prep), Brittney Johnson (Ferris), Brooke Reilly (Mt. Spokane), Hailey Markham-Patti (North Central) and Katie Estey (CV), and honorable mention Madison Hovren (CV).
Playing for the Region are: All-Inland Empire League 5A first-team picks Karlee Wilson (Lewiston), Caelyn Orlandi (Coeur d’Alene), Dani Failor (Post Falls), Erin Legal (CdA) and Kendalyn Brainard (CdA), two-time Great Northern League MVP Jamie Weisner (Clarkston), Central Washington 2B League MVP Chandler Smith (Brewster), 2B state tournament MVP and Player of the Year Kelsey Moos (Reardan) along with Chelsea Waters (Lewiston), Sydney Williams (CdA), Brooke Litalien (Post Falls) and Kyeli Parker (CdA).
Eighteen of the 24 players are NCAA Division I signees or with potential to play at that level, Adams said. Three others have signed with Division II schools.
Weisner, who has signed with Oregon State University, was the leading scorer in last year’s game wi th 28 points.
“She is the best player on the West Coast,” Adams said. “Nobody will argue with that.”
