Ex-Bulldogs stars won’t cross paths

WNBA: The WNBA preseason schedule concludes today when Courtney Vandersloot and the Chicago Sky play at defending WNBA champion Minnesota. The regular season starts on Friday.

The former Gonzaga star will not see former teammate Kayla Standish, who was released last week by Minnesota. The second-round draft choice did not get into a game for the Lynx during the preseason.

The Sky played New York on Monday, but another Bulldog, third-round draft pick Katelan Redmon, did not play for the Liberty.

However, Redmon, who missed the game because of illness, did have 10 points in 16 minutes of New York’s other exhibition game. The Liberty are expected to make final cuts today to finalize their roster for the regular season.

Vandersloot (pictured), a first-round draft pick last year, third overall, has started two preseason wins for Chicago.

Briann January, from Lewis and Clark High School, was back in the Indiana Fever starting lineup for two exhibition wins after missing last season with a knee injury. She played 31 minutes in the Fever’s first win, scoring 12 points. She had nine points in 19 minutes of the other game.
