Drywall dust prompts investigation at federal building

An unknown substance found this morning in a stairwell of the federal building in downtown Spokane turned out to be drywall dust. Spokane firefighters and hazardous materials investigators blocked part of Riverside Avenue in front of the Thomas S. Foley Federal Building while they checked out the substance between the eighth and ninth floors. The building is undergoing renovation. It was not evacuated.
