Cougars beat USC

Mead product Nate Blackham’s two-run single in the eighth inning proved the difference as Washington State beat USC 3-1 in Pac-12 baseball action Tuesday in Pullman.

Jason Monda also had an RBI double for the Cougars (25-24, 10-14 Pac-12), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Freshman Joe Pistorese (3-3) allowed three hits over five shutout innings for WSU. He struck out one and walked two.

Spokane Shock defensive back and kick returner Terrance Sanders was named Defensive Player of the Week and Ironman after his performance in last week’s 68-62 overtime victory over New Orleans.

Sanders had five kick returns for 153 yards and two touchdowns Friday and two interceptions.
