CARSTENS, Mary Mavis
“Midge”
(Age 88)

Passed away on May 12, 2012 in Davenport, WA.

She was born August 10, 1923 to Peter and Elsie Golden of Priest River, ID.

After graduating high school she worked for Judge Weaver in Spokane.

She married Robert Carstens on June 26, 1948 and settled in Harrington, WA where he farmed until his death in 1979.

She was very involved in local and state Democratic politics in the 1950s-1970s holding several offices in the party and volunteering on several campaigns.

She was also a volunteer fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Parrish in Harrington and deeply involved in church activities including teaching, choir director and member of the Altar Society.

In later years she was also a member of PEO.

She is survived by her two children: John of Newport News, VA; and Kathleen of Decatur, GA; three grandchildren: Peter, Joseph, and Annie Carstens of Newport News; and one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn, as well as several nieces, a nephew, and great nieces and nephews.

Midge was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Carstens in 1979 and her sister, Jeauneil.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the American Heart Association.

A Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, Harrington, WA with Father Pat MacMahon officiating.
