McKenna makes candidacy official

Gubernatorial hopeful among latest to file papers

OLYMPIA – Several candidates who have been running for months made it official Thursday, adding their names to the growing list of current and potential officeholders for the Aug. 7 ballot.

State Attorney General Rob McKenna, who has offices in Seattle and Olympia, filed for governor online, from Spokane. While McKenna is considered the likely Republican nominee for the state’s top job, he joined six others who also want the job, four of them listing their party preference as Republican.

U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Eastern Washington’s four-term incumbent, also made her re-election campaign official.

As of Thursday evening, she had two opponents: Democrat Rich Cowan, a Spokane businessman, and marijuana rights activist Ian Moody, who listed no party preference for his candidacy.

Other candidates filing for offices on Spokane-area primary ballots late Wednesday or Thursday, and their party preference, included:

Governor: Max Sampson, Republican

State auditor: Craig Pridemore and Mark Miloscia, both Democrat

Superintendent of public instruction: Don Hansler (nonpartisan office)

Insurance commissioner: Scott Reilly, Republican

3rd Legislative District

State representative, Position 2: Dave White, Republican

6th Legislative District

State representative, Position 2: Ben Oakley, Republican

7th Legislative District

State representative, Position 2: Joel Kretz, Republican
