In brief: Riverfront Park to be discussed

SPOKANE COUNTY – Local residents are invited to upcoming community meetings scheduled to discuss the future of Riverfront Park.

Meetings will be held on Thursday at the West Central Community Center, 1603 W. Belt Ave.; May 29 at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.; and May 31 at Hillyard Senior Activity Center, 4001 N. Cook St. All meetings will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Turnbull hosting spring festival

CHENEY – The Ice Age Floods Institute, Cheney-Spokane Chapter will have a celebration of spring today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Floods, Flowers and Feathers Festival on the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge.

The event will include a bird scavenger hunt, an opportunity to see a skink and other reptiles and amphibians, learn how to track an elk with radio telemetry and make animal tracks. Visitors can also tour the refuge, go on a hike with native plant and bird experts and discover how the Turnbull landscape was shaped by lava and Ice Age floods.

The celebration will be at the wildlife refuge, located 4.2 miles south of Cheney, off Cheney-Plaza Road.
