Obituary: Lavagetto, Jane

LAVAGETTO,
Jane

Jane Lavagetto passed away peacefully May 16th, 2012 at Hospice House.
Mom (Jane) was born in Olympia, February 4th 1920, to Ruth and Robert Burgunder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband.

She married Frank June 3rd, 1940.

They were married for 55 years prior to his death in 1996.

They owned and operated their greenhouse and flower shop, “Angelo’s Flowers” for over 50 years.

Frank retired in the late 1980s and Jane and her son, Jeffrey, continued to run the business for another five years.

Mom retired, and the establishment was closed and sold bringing an end to the well known landmark.
Early school education for Mom was completed in California.

She attended WSU where she earned her AA degree.

She graduated with BA degree from Gonazaga University, where she later worked for Father A. Dussault, vice president of the university.
Mom was an accomplished writer.

She published nearly 75 free lance articles in the Spokesman-Review, showing many facets of her personality, humorous, sad, witty and also a sentimental passionate side.

One article was about the love she developed for a yellow lab, Duffy that she rescued, as he too showed as much love for mom, a beautiful, bonding relationship.

A time came when she had to say “goodbye” to him but another companion was found, Daffy, and brought many joyful days to mom’s life as mom would spend many hours sitting in her bay window with a favorite book soaking up the warm sunshine with Daffy at her feet.
One of mom’s passions was reading to the first graders at All Saints School, from 1994 to 2009.

She talked fondly of these children and related some of their antics that possibly were as entertaining as was the story she was reading to them.

Many times she would read a favorite book but more often the children requested mom make up a story instead.

Mom said once she wondered what the kids liked more, the story telling or what surprise goody she would bring.
Jane is survived by her three children, Larry (Ardis) Lavagetto of Shoreline, WA; Jill Fisher in Montana and Jeffrey Lavagetto of Spokane.

A brother, Rich Burgunder, and his two children, of Seattle and beloved cousin Carlotta Lavagetto in Spokane.

She had five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
Mom will be remembered by the many people that she touched in her life.

We all loved you and will miss you.

Rest in peace, dear lady.
At her request, no services are planned, private family services will be conducted at a later date.
