Paul Edward Carter passed away quietly sleeping at his home Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Paul was born July 7, 1925 in Spokane, Washington to Richard Bert and Lula Selena Carter, and was the youngest sibling to Bert, Ward, Barbara and Phyllis.

He married Helen Barbara Crosby from Spokane, November 2, 1950.

They had four children Nancy, Tom, Rick and Rob.


Paul grew up in Spokane active in the Boy Scouts in which he served his entire life finally receiving the Silver Beaver award.

He was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War in which he served in the Air Force as a bombardier.

He graduated from Washington State University in journalism and worked in advertising for 38 years for Spokane’s newspapers; The Spokesman Review and the Daily Chronicle.

He finished his career working for the Hobbs, New Mexico paper, the News Sun, and Geiger, a specialty advertising company.

Paul was very active in community organizations serving in Rotary, Lions Club, Chambers of Commerce, Demolay, Boy Scouts, high school reunions, Sons of the American Revolution, and many newspaper industry associations.

Paul was active in the LDS Church serving in the Elder’s Quorum, Scouting, Bishoprics and High Council.

He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, doing genealogy, games with friends, and working; working hard at work, working hard at everything he did.
Paul was preceded in death by his brothers Bert and Ward, his sister, Barbara, and by two of his children, Nancy and Tom and by a grandson, Stephen.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Barbara, his two remaining sons, Rick and Rob, and by many loving grandchildren Suzie, Andrea, Amy, Dan, Emily, Sam, John, Selena, Stephen, Tim, Jared, Jennifer, Jason, Josh, Christina, Cara, Cayla, Cachae, Cassidi, Brandon, Cade and 25 great grandchildren.

In his later years, Paul was cared for by one of the finest of physicians, Dr. Ed Ganellen, and in his final days, by Scott and Chelsee of Hospice for Utah.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2pm at the LDS Church at 755 Three Fountains Drive, Murray, Utah.

Interment will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah.
