Memorial Day Events

14th Annual Battle of Deep Creek - May 26-28. Civil War Re-Enactment and Living History Encampment sponsored by Washington Civil War Association. Hours are Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with battles at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; and Monday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with a battle at 1 p.m. Purchase tickets in advance by phone, email to tickets@ewcav.org or use Paypal. Directions: Take Highway 2 past Fairchild Air Force Base, stay in right hand lane and turn right onto Deep Creek Road, two miles down on the left. May 26, Deep Creek Farms, 811 N. Fairmount Memorial Park - May 26-28. Daily, small flags will be handed out daily and Flag Museum at Kirtland Cutter Rock Chapel inside Fairmount will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cemetery office will be open and staffed to answer questions and assistance that you need. Staffed Tent for finding your loved ones and the staff will print an exact location map - and even lead you and help you find your location. Monday at 11 a.m. at the Iwo Jima Memorial: Marine Corp League at Veterans Memorial inside Fairmount with guest speaker David Condon, Mayor of Spokane, Marine Rifles, Boy Scouts. Greenwood Memorial Terrace - May 26-28. Daily, Cemetery office will be open and staffed to answer any questions and assistance that you need. Staffed tent for finding your relatives at Top of Greenwood. The staff will print an exact map and even lead you and help you find your location. Small American flags also handed out daily. Riverside Memorial Park - May 26-28. Kirtland Cutter Cottage, just on left before you enter Riverside Cemetery, will be open and staffed to answer any questions and offer assistance that you need. A staffed tent just past entrance at Rose Circle is available for finding your relatives the staff will print out an exact map and even lead you to their location. Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory - May 26-28, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. “Remembering the Titanic (100-year anniversary) and Other Great Shipwrecks.” Enjoy Veterans, Aerospace, and Antique and Classic Car displays; first showing ever of the newly restored, one-of-a-kind 1939 Packard Henny Super 8 Hearse; and the Tree of Remembrance. Daily, noon and 1:30 p.m. Titanic-era Musical Tribute Show in the Heritage Chapel by members of the Rockin’ B Ranch, hosted by Tim Behrens. Refreshments in the reception room. Spokane Memorial Gardens - May 26-28, Cemetery Office will be open and staffed to answer any questions. Staffed tent on grounds to assist in finding relatives and help find their location. Monday at 10 a.m., Hosted by Spokane Greater Elks with Opening Prayer, Scout Troop 22 presents colors, drum solo by Sweet Adelines and VFW Honor Guard-Volley/Tap/Bugler. American Heroes Weekend - May 26-28, all military personnel, police officers and firefighters (identification required) receive FREE admission to the park on these days and their immediate family members are half price general admission when purchasing tickets at Silverwood’s front gate. Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Monday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. May 26, Silverwood Theme Park, 27843 N. Highway 95, Athol, ID. Memorial Day Service - Hillyard - Presented by Hillyard VFW Post #1474 and Ladies Auxiliary. May 27, 11 a.m., Hillyard Evergreen Cemetery, west side of Market Street, just south of Mead.

Ceremony Honoring Fallen Service Members - The ceremony will include the dedication of over 40 plaques bearing the names of service members with local connections killed in action since September 11, 2001, area veterans, an Honor Guard, and the Patriot Guard Riders. A patriotic service at 10:30 am at Valley 4th will precede the event. The public is invited to attend the church service, the dedication ceremony, and a barbecue after the event, with all proceeds benefiting H.O.M.E. in its ministry to members of the U.S. military and their families. Memorial Day Ceremony - Hayden - Begins at 10 a.m. with the laying of the wreath and tolling of boats at Honeysuckle Beach to honor the service men and women who sacrificed their lives in the military to our country. Ceremony includes a prayer, rifle salute and Taps. The main ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the PFC Robert J. Gordon Veterans Memorial Plaza at Hayden City Hall. An A-10 flyover will kick off the main event at 10:45 a.m. at City Hall, which include a presentation of colors by the Civil Air Patrol, a bagpipe tribute, the National Anthem, placement of a wreath, Mayor’s Welcome, the Memorial Day Address, musical guest Kiara Klinkefus and a rifle salute. Memorial Day Parade - Bonners Ferry - Presented by American Legion, Boundary County Idaho Post #55. Begins at Boundary County Fairgrounds and winds its way through the downtown area. Immediately following the parade, a memorial service at Grandview Cemetery, complete with dignitaries, speakers, firing squad and Taps. May 28, 10 a.m.

Washington State Veterans Cemetery - Medical Lake - Program is outdoors and seating is also limited, so bring a blanket or chair. Parking will be available along Ritchey Road, Northern Quest Resort & Casino, Medical Lake High School, and Denny’s Foods. Carpooling is encouraged.
