In brief: Potential traffic impact topic of meeting

SPOKANE VALLEY – A study on potential traffic impacts for improvements to land at Sprague Avenue and Herald Road will be presented during a community meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Spokane Valley Fire Station 1, 10319 E. Sprague Ave. The city is discussing purchasing the land for a new library and expansion of adjacent Balfour Park.

The discussion will include information on traffic impacts to the surrounding neighborhood and possible ways to mitigate the impacts.

Pottery group offers summer classes

CHIEF GARRY PARK – The Spokane Potters’ Guild, 1404 N. Fiske St., will have summer pottery classes covering oxidation, reduction and raku methods of firing. Starting June 11, the classes are for beginners through advanced levels, age 18 and older.

Classes are:

Wheel throwing - beginning only: June 11-July 30, Mondays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. or June 14-Aug. 4, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $110.

Wheel throwing – all levels: June 11-July 30, Monday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. or June 16-Aug. 2, Thursday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Cost is $110.

Hand building – intermediate/advanced: June 16-Aug. 2, Thursday, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $110.

Hand building – all levels: June 14-Aug. 4, Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $110.

The course fee includes two additional hours of open studio time each week. A lab fee of $15 will cover the first 25 pound bag of clay, glazes and firing costs. Class size is limited to eight students. To register call (509) 532-8225.
