Police kept busy, but few arrests

There weren’t many arrests in Liberty Lake the week of May 14-21, but a high number of calls sent Liberty Lake police officers from one end of town to the other.

A middle school student sent a text to a schoolmate saying he had raped a girl, said the department’s administrative assistant, Bobbi Anderson. Investigators determined that the incident never happened and the parents plan to handle the situation.

Police were called for an “uncomfortable display of affection” in Pavillion Park, but an officer determined the couple were just making out, Anderson said. The couple were reminded that they were in a family park.

A 4-year-old was found walking alone in the Hawkstone area and an officer was able to locate a parent, Anderson said. Two stolen vehicles were recovered and there were reports of three gasoline thefts at two gas stations.

A resident reported hearing gunshots in the area of King James Lane. Officers discovered that a mother and son were putting dry ice in bottled water, which caused the bottles to explode, Anderson said.

A Liberty Lake man was arrested on charges of unlawful imprisonment-domestic violence and malicious mischief after a physical fight caused injuries to a woman, including bite marks. He also didn’t allow the woman to leave or call for help, Anderson said.

There were additional arrests on charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana.

During the week officers gave out two citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance and three for speeding. Additional citations were given for license and plates required, attachment of plate to vehicle, illegal use of studded tires, failure to yield right of way, possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree theft.
