Here’s the Dirt: Fairchild opens fitness center

Fairchild opens fitness center

Fairchild Air Force Base recently dedicated its new $20.4 million fitness center. It replaces the original fitness center built in the 1940s.

Lydig Construction of Spokane headed the two-year project. The new center comes to nearly 80,000 square feet, replacing the previous space of 43,500 square feet.

The center includes an enclosed full-size pool, basketball court, workout center-auditorium and second-level running track. The SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training program operated at the base will also use the center for courses and workouts.

The base fitness center is open to anyone with a Department of Defense ID card.

Sports retailer changing malls

Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters will move from the Spokane Valley Mall to NorthTown Mall in Spokane.

June 17 is the last day on the west end of the Valley mall, between Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack. Outdoor Outfitters will reopen in early July inside NorthTown. It will occupy a 34,000-square-foot space formerly leased by apparel retailer Steve & Barry’s, next to anchor store Sears.

Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters is owned by agricultural cooperative UFA Co-operative Ltd.

Spokane-based Design Spike Inc. recently moved its offices to the second floor of the Liberty Building at 203 N. Washington St. in downtown Spokane. It was previously at the Symons Building downtown.

The move was prompted by company growth, said owner Laura Bracken.

Established in 2003, Design Spike has four full-time employees and focuses on Web design and development.
