In brief: Motorcyclist, 65, collides with deer

A 65-year-old man was injured Sunday when his motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 395.

Duane M. Trost, of Loon Lake, was riding his 1982 Yamaha motorcycle northbound when he hit a deer at the intersection of 12 Mile Road in Stevens County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash was reported to police at 3:23 p.m.

Trost, who was wearing a helmet, was flown by MedStar helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he remained in the emergency room Sunday night.

Marijuana grower shot in robbery

SEATTLE – A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot during a robbery at his home in North Seattle, and police are investigating four drive-by shootings in South Seattle in which more than 60 rounds were fired early Sunday.

The robbery occurred just before 2 a.m. The victim operates a marijuana grow operation with his roommate, and he was shot in the chest when he confronted the intruder. Police are still looking for the shooter.

Elsewhere, police said, there were four drive-by shootings in South Seattle overnight. No one was hurt. More than 20 shots were fired at the first home at 1 a.m., and 30 were fired at two homes at 3 a.m. Investigators said gang members live at all three of those homes.

A fourth drive-by shooting occurred at about 3:10 a.m. when a woman said she was looking out her bedroom window and someone fired into the house. Eleven bullets went into her house.
