Something about Thursday nights brings out the best in Virginia Tech and Miami. Both could use a little boost. The Hokies’ streak of eight straight 10-win seasons is in jeopardy, and could only be extended if they prevail in their last four regular-season games, then the Atlantic Coast Conference title matchup and the Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes have lost three straight games by a combined score of 92-37. Still, the ACC title game is within reach of both the Hokies (4-4, 2-2 ACC) and Hurricanes (4-4, 3-2). One could take a big step forward today ( 4:30 p.m. on ESPN) in Miami. On Thursday nights, Miami is 15-3 and Virginia Tech is 19-5. – AP
