WSU wins first Pac-12 volleyball match

Sophomore Ver’Leeea Hardaway had a match-high 15 kills and hit .577 Wednesday as Washington State recorded its first Pac-12 volleyball win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Colorado (14-11, 4-9).

Marcelina Glab added 11 kills and Camryn Irwin 31 assists for the Cougars (11-14, 1-12).

• Annie Arnzen, Kate Hart and Alex Bucholtz combined for 32 kills as Community Colleges of Spokane posted a 3-0 sweep over Columbia Basin (13-16, 4-8) at Spokane Falls CC.

Malea Webb added 32 assists for the Sasquatch (26-8, 9-3), who have qualified for the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges playoffs but can pass Walla Walla for the East Division’s No. 2 seed.

Women’s golf

Kristen Rue tied for sixth place and Mallory Kent tied for ninth to lead Washington State to third place at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu.

WSU finished three rounds at 898, three shots behind Florida International.

Rue shot 6-over-par 222, one shot better than Kent. Florida International’s Shelby Coyle tied Eastern Michigan’s Sarah Johnson at 218, then birdied the first playoff hole for the win.

Women’s soccer

Theresa Henle’s sixth goal of the season helped Puget Sound (12-4-1, 11-2-1 Northwest Conference) move closer to its 11th consecutive conference title with a 2-0 win over Whitworth (10-7-2, 10-3-2) in a makeup match played at Ellensburg.

The Pirates complete their regular season at noon Saturday at home against Linfield. Whitworth has an outside shot at the NWC title.

• Lateashea Currie scored three goals to power CC Spokane (13-1-3, 12-1-2 NWAACC) to a 6-1 win over host Columbia Basin (7-7-3, 5-7-3) at Pasco.

Tasha Luu and Alli Floyd added one goal and one assists apiece for the Sasquatch. CCS leads the East Division and completes its regular season at noon Saturday at home.

• Idaho senior Chelsea Small was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference first team to become the Vandals’ first four-time all-conference honoree. UI senior Jill Flockhart was named to the second team, making her All-WAC for three straight years.

Men’s soccer

Antonio Gonzalez scored at 91 minutes to allow host Columbia Basin (11-5-4, 6-4-3 NWAACC) to tie CC Spokane at 1 in Pasco. Matt Harper scored at 22 minutes for the Sasquatch (7-6-3, 5-5-2).
