The Spokane Chiefs head into tonight’s only meeting with the Red Deer Rebels without leading scorer Mitch Holmberg, who returned from the team’s last road trip with an upper-body injury.
Holmberg collected 11 goals and 12 assists in his first 14 games to rank fifth among Western Hockey League scorers to start the season. Whether the injury is enough to prevent the 19-year-old from participating in the Subway Super Series for Team WHL on Nov. 14 in a game against Team Russia is unknown.
Also on the injured list for games tonight and Saturday (against Everett at the Arena) are wingers Marek Kalus and Blake Gal and defenseman Tanner Mort. Kalus and Gal could be out for up to a month; Mort is listed as day-to-day.
Left winger Todd Fiddler, obtained last year from Prince Albert, is on a hot streak after scoring a pair of goals Tuesday in an 8-2 win over Seattle. Fiddler has seven goals and nine points in his last six games.
Already the team’s leading career scorer among defensemen, Brenden Kichton scored his 50th career goal and his 200th career point with his third-period wrist shot Tuesday.
Spokane won its last meeting with the Rebels a year ago at Red Deer 5-2. The Chiefs are 12-6 in their last 18 games against the Rebels.
