Chewelah earns State 1A berth

Derek Smith threw for two scores and ran for another as Chewelah held on after a quick start and beat Okanogan 26-20 in a State 1A play-in football game Friday night in soggy conditions at Chewelah.

Smith ran for 137 yards on 17 carries for the Cougars (9-1), who scored 20 points in the first quarter. Cordell Bean added a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown for Chewelah.

The win was the ninth straight for the Cougars. Their only loss came in the season opener against Deer Park.

Quincy 16, Freeman 7: Antonio Melandez and Jacob Durfee ran for touchdowns and the Jackrabbits did enough defensively to beat the host Scotties (7-3). Freeman’s Wyatt Smith threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kian Gentman in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough for the Scotties, who were eliminated.

Cashmere 66, Lakeside 9: The Bulldogs scored early and often and eliminated the visiting Eagles (4-5).

Cascade 44, Medical Lake 14: The Cardinals (6-3) were eliminated after falling to the Kodiaks at Leavenworth.

Idaho State 4A

Bonneville 18, Moscow 6: Jordan Vielma, Tanner Smith and Trae Walker ran for touchdowns as the Bees beat the host Bears (4-5). Kyle Snyder scored on a 13-yard run in the third for Moscow’s only touchdown.

State 2B play-ins

Reardan 28, Tri-Cities Prep 0: Clinton Jemey and Charlie Eldred broke loose on long touchdown runs and the Indians (7-2) blanked the visiting Jaguars. Jemey’s 85-yard touchdown run in the first quarter put Reardan up 7-0. In the third, Eldred galloped 64 yards for another touchdown. The Indians scored twice more in the fourth to put the game away.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40, Asotin 7: Dylan Hartz ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns and Cort Ruzicka also rushed for two scores as the Broncos (9-0) topped the visiting Panthers (1-6).

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 36, Colfax 14: Max Mueller hauled in two touchdown passes from Micah Pittsley and the Nighthawks (8-1) beat the host Bulldogs (5-3). Clay Shelton added two rushing scores for TOR.

Waitsburg-Prescott 47, Springdale 8: James Tompkins caught four passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns as the Cardinals (9-1) routed the visiting Chargers (2-6).

DeSales 44, Davenport 6: The Irish (7-1) scored 37 first-half points and went on to eliminate the visiting Gorillas (4-5). Max Mielke scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth for Davenport’s lone score.

State 1B play-ins

Wellpinit 80, Odessa-Harrington 56: A.J. Kieffer accounted for eight touchdowns in the Redskins’ (8-2) win over the visiting Titans (6-4). Kieffer had four rushing touchdowns, two passing scores, an interception return for a touchdown and a kickoff return for another score.

Cusick 70, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 6: Ryan Sample threw for six touchdowns and added a rushing touchdowns in the Panthers’ win over the Warriors (8-2) in Coulee City. Derrick Bluff caught four touchdown passes and ran for two scores for Cusick (10-0).

Columbia-Inchelium 54, Pateros 26: Dustin Wyborney ran for 177 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown as the Lions (7-3) beat the visiting Billy Goats (6-4).

Nonleague

Walla Walla 20, Lewis and Clark 17: Calab Alaniz made a 19-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to break a 17-all tie and give the Blue Devils a win over the host Tigers (4-6). Coleton Fitzgerald ran for 162 yards on 29 carries and scored twice for LC.

Omak 32, Kettle Falls 15: Alexander Aguilar threw for two scores and ran for another as the Pioneers took control in the second half and beat the host Bulldogs (0-10). Cole Wren threw two touchdown passes to Luke Beardslee, but that’s all Kettle Falls could muster. Omak outscored the Bulldogs 20-8 in the second half to grab control.

Riverside 29, Tonasket 28: Jacob Collins scored from 1 yard out with 1 minute left and ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Rams (1-9) a win over the host Tigers.

Chelan 42, Newport 13: Kai Clausen and Zach Burchett ran for two scores apiece as the Goats beat the host Grizzlies (3-6). Cody Phillips caught a touchdown pass from Ryan Rapp and Carter Schutz scored on a 1-yard run for Newport.

Liberty 20, Dayton 13: Match Burnham threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns as the Lancers (3-7) edged the visiting Bulldogs (1-7).

Selkirk 40, Wilbur-Creston 36: Dominic Cain threw for 322 yards and five touchdowns as the Rangers (5-5) held on to beat the host Wildcats (3-7). Trystan Rosman ran for 306 yards and three scores for Wilbur-Creston.

Northport 30, Entiat 28: Jeremiah Johnson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Mustangs (4-6) held on to beat the host Tigers.
