Mead, Mt. Spokane advance to state volleyball


Dana Norris had a season-high 16 kills and Mead kept its perfect record intact, sweeping the Richland Bombers in the 4A regional title match Saturday afternoon in Richland.

The win gave the Panthers the top seed to the state tournament.

Jonni Dorr dished out 36 assists and Hannah Zalopany added 13 digs and two blocks for Mead.

Richland earned the second seed to state after beating Central Valley in five sets. Taylor Butters had 10 kills and Sasha Montgomery dished out 37 assists for the Bears, who were eliminated.

3A regional

Mt. Spokane earned its sixth consecutive berth to the state tournament with a sweep of Kamiakin in the regional title match at Mt. Spokane.

Kennadie Clute had 19 kills and 13 digs and Paiton Larson handed out 36 assists for the Wildcats.

2A regional

Colville’s dominance under coach Missy Bennett continued as the Indians earned a berth to the state tournament with a sweep of Grandview in the title match in Colville. Scores were 25-7, 25-16 and 25-13.

Joellee Buckner had 17 kills and Leanna Carr piled up 27 assists for Colville.

The Indians have made the state tournament 13 times with Bennett as coach.

They’re 99-3 over the past three years, including 30-1 this season.

• East Valley was eliminated after being swept by East Valley of Yakima. Scores were 25-12, 25-22 and 25-12.

Sam Geibel had six kills and six blocks for the Knights (12-7).

1A bi-district

Kayley Watkins had nine kills as Lakeside swept Cascade (Leavenworth) in the title match at Freeman. Scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-19.

The Eagles (15-2) claimed the top seed to state and the Kodiaks are No. 2.

Freeman earned the third and final seed to state with a 25-12, 17-25, 26-24, 26-24 win over Chelan. Molly McIntyre led the Scotties with 25 digs and four aces.

2B regional

Nicole Sheer had 17 kills and Amelie Bruya totaled 38 assists as Colfax secured the top seed to the state tournament with a 3-1 win over Reardan in the regional title game at West Valley.

Kelsey Moos had 21 kills and six blocks for the Indians, who claimed the second seed to the state tourney.

Davenport and Northwest Christian also earned berths to the state tournament. Davenport got 13 kills and 38 digs from Allie Johnson in its five-set win over Asotin.

Northwest Christian advanced with a 3-1 win over Tri-Cities Prep.

District 7 1B

Kaelee Reed and Hannah Haglin led the way as Wilbur-Creston secured the top seed to the state tournament with a five-set win over Odessa-Harrington in the district title match at Northwest Christian.

Reed had 18 kills and four blocks and Haglin had 40 assists, 24 digs and four aces for the Wildcats.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline earned the third and final seed to state with a sweep over Northport. Scores were 25-10, 25-6 and 25-20.

Allison Fox had 13 kills and Makenna Tipps added 30 assists and four aces for the Warriors, who beat Cusick earlier in the day.

District 9 1B

Tekoa-Oakesdale earned the top seed to the state tournament with a 3-1 win over Colton in the title match at Colfax.

Scores were 25-22, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-22.

Colton earned the second seed to state. St. John-Endicott earned the third seed with a win over Liberty Christian.
