Mead qualifies for State 4A girls soccer

Alex Chambers, Amanda Aldrich and Shayna Sexton scored as the Mead girls soccer team blanked Richland 3-0 in the 4A regional title match Saturday at Richland.

The win gave the Panthers (12-4) the second seed to the state tournament, while the Bombers were eliminated.

Kara Marbury assisted on two of Mead’s three goals.

2A regional: Halie Gronenthal scored two second-half goals and West Valley nabbed a state berth with a 4-3 win at Ephrata. The Eagles (13-5) outscored Ephrata 3-0 in the second half to erase an early deficit.

In the other regional match, Alexys Garcia scored in the 48th minute and Pullman (18-1) went on to beat Prosser 1-0 in Pullman to secure the other state berth. The Greyhounds’ Dakota Wickard notched her 12th shutout of the season.

1A bi-district: Lizzy Estes had two goals and two assists as Lakeside secured a state berth with a 5-2 win over Okanogan in Nine Mile Falls.

Newport was eliminated after falling 1-0 to visiting Cascade (Leavenworth).

Boys soccer

Camus Chapman scored twice and St. George’s beat Northwest Christian 2-0 in the 2B subregional title match at Gonzaga Prep.

The win gave the Dragons the top seed to the state tournament. Northwest Christian earned the second seed.

Idaho football

Preston Rhodes returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and Mason Cramer ran 80 yards for a score after recovering a fumble and Timberlake edged Weiser 15-13 in a 3A State quarterfinal game in Spirit Lake.

The Tigers (6-4) host Fruitland on Saturday in a semifinal game.

State 1A DI: Wallace (6-4) was eliminated after a 34-6 loss to visiting Troy.

State 1A DII: Simeon Desatuel’s 35-yard touchdown run was all host Kootenai (6-4) could muster in a 32-8 loss to Garden Valley in Harrison.
