Obituary: Byers, Theodore (Ted)

BYERS, Theodore “Ted”

Passed away peacefully on Oct. 25th.

He was 73 years old.


Ted was born in Longview, WA.

His parents, Ted and Jenny Byers; as well as his sister, Virginia preceded him in death.
As a young boy, Ted attended Ackerman Elementary in La Grande, Oregon.

He graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane, went on to Gonzaga University and received his BA in education.

In 1990, he earned his masters of curriculum and administration.

Ted taught for 38 years, the last 30 in East Valley School District.

He retired in 1999.
Married for over 43 years, Ted met his wife, Margie (Cooney) at an art class.

They have one son, Nate and two beautiful granddaughters, Jordan and Jazmine.

He is also survived by one foster grandson, Josh and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted loved music, especially Bluegrass.

He would write songs and play his guitar with his students.

He also enjoyed working with lathes and metal machinery.
The family would like to thank Father Paul Vevik, Nurse Tracy, Stephanie and Geoff of Horizon Hospice and the staff of Providence Adult Day Health for their wonderful care.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Greeley, Dwain Juda, Homer and staff.


Services for Ted will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Queen Church; The Reverend Paul S. Vevik officiating.


As a member of Mary Queen Parish for 19 years, the family would like donations sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Society there at 3423 E. Carlisle Ave. Spokane, WA 99217 or to Providence Adult Day Health at 6018 N. Astor, Spokane, WA 99208 in lieu of flowers.
